SOUTHCOTE SUNDAY FUNDAY May 8th 2005
Southcote Community Forum known as SCF, arranged another very successful
Sunday Funday on May 8th 2005. 17 stall holdes sold a variety of items
or challenged visitors to win a prize.
The 1st Reading Sea Scouts ran the BBQ and gave SCF a percentage of
their takings towards the OAP's Christmas party as did the Funfair and Ice Cream people.
We had a raffle with good prizes, including many generously donated by local shop keepers,
and refreshments were on sale in the Community Centre. The Punch And Judy man gave two
performances plus a live band SCAM# played most of the afternoon.
Once again the Green was full and buzzing, tables were borrowed from local churches
and the road was closed for safety.
Thank You to everyone who helped on the day and with the lead-up and clearing up
after. Pity the wind was so cold and some gazebo's bent under the pressure, a small
shower sent most people into the centre for tea and cakes where Judith coped
with the queue.
Southcote Residents Association had a tombola stall well protected from the
wind where the helpers got sunburnt.
As two of the stalwart members of SCF are leaving the area, we desperately need
new faces, our object is to arrange events without expecting anything back but
satisfaction of keeping Southcote a friendly estate.
