About Us Southcote

We are here to help our community

The Southcote Community Association is dedicated to creating a friendly, supportive, and welcoming community where everyone feels included and can thrive. It is completely independent, with no affiliation to any political or religious organisations.

We are a group of like-minded volunteers working together to make Southcote an even greater place to live. Our focus is to bring the community together, improve the local environment, and inform the community of local events and initiatives

Success Story

Being awarded grant funding from Reading Borough Council

In March 2025 we were awarded £5,000 from Reading Borough Council’s Small Grants Fund. This money has allowed us to purchase a gazebo and event branding. This meant we were able to participate in events such as Reading Children’s Festival as well as a Southcote community event on Coronation Square.

The money has also been used to relaunch our quarterly newsletter, Southcote Echo.

Participated at Reading Children's Festival

In May 2025, the SCA participated at the Reading Children’s Festival Forbury Fiesta. This was a brilliant event where we promoted Southcote. And our Pick A Pop and Hook A Duck games were extremely popular. It was fantastic to be apart of an amazing event promoting our neighbourhood.

Monthly Craft Session

The monthly craft session once again brought colour, laughter, and creativity to the room. Children eagerly gathered around the tables, excited to dive into the day’s activities. With paint, paper, and plenty of imagination, they proudly created their masterpieces. It was heart-warming to see parents continuing to support the session by bringing their children along, making the event a lively and familiar gathering of regular families. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, showcasing both creativity and community spirit.

Senior Lunch

The senior lunch, hosted and partly funded by SCA, proved to be a wonderful occasion. Seniors enjoyed not only a delicious meal but also the opportunity to connect, share stories, and spend time together in a warm and welcoming setting. The event ran smoothly and was met with positive feedback, reflecting the strong sense of community and care. Overall, the lunch was a great success and a truly enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

5.0

I first joined the Southcote Community Association in November 2024 after attending a Save Our Neighbourhood meeting with one of my neighbours. It was there that I first heard about the SCA and its mission to work with residents to bring pride back into Southcote and help make it a better place to live — a vibrant community where everyone feels they belong. What really inspired me was the range of ideas the association had for bringing people together. Since joining, we’ve held events throughout the year, including play activity days, markets and bingo evenings, all of which have been great fun and have brought neighbours together. Being part of the SCA has shown me how much residents care about Southcote and how much potential there is for the area to thrive. I’m excited to see how we continue to grow and develop, and I hope even more residents will get involved and share their ideas. The SCA isn’t just about supporting the community — it’s about bringing the community together.
